Selecting colors from the Preferences menu opens the Color dialog.  This allows you to select colors for graphical items such as shared or suppressed edges, faces, mesh lines, global axes, and the graphics area background (which allows you to pick both colors and gradient patterns).

Note:Clicking reset affects all three tabs simultaneously, so use it with caution.

General color options

Use this tab to determine the colors of the graphics area background, as well as the global axes and their labels.

Note that by default the background is a simple vertical gradient, using two fairly neutral colors.  However, you can select any two colors to use and can also select different gradient patterns.  To change a color, simply click the colored box to open a palette, and click the desired color from there.

Geometry color options

The geometry tab allows you to determine the colors of geometric features such as free or shared edges, 2D or 3D faces, and colors to indicate the how mappable various 3D solids are.

Mesh color options

The Mesh tab allows you to determine the colors of mesh-related features such as mesh lines, elements that have no associated property or material, and elements that have multiple/unresolved properties or materials.
