= 0: no printed messages, except the primary messages generated by standard error handler (default value).

= 1: produces a small amount of runtime statistics and any detailed error messages.

= 2: creates a more complete set of runtime statistics and a log of steps in the process.

= 3: produces diagnostic output, including output of the content of various arrays whose length is no larger than the number of equations.

> 4: will produce volumes of output for debugging purposes.
