Description: Anti-Dive/Lift and Brake Dive/Lift

Component

Unit

Comment

1 (X):  Left Front Anti-Dive or
Left Rear Anti-Lift

%

The resistance to diving in a front suspension or resistance to lifting in a rear suspension due to suspension geometry during braking.  In a suspension with 100% anti-dive/lift the moment about the side view instant center due to weight transfer is exactly offset by the moment about the side view instant center due to the braking force.  See the following equations:

Front Suspensions

acx = (front brake ratio)/2

aczleft = (cg height)/2/(wheel base)

aczright= (cg height)/2/(wheel base)

Orientation A:

dzfleft = acx*(C(3,1)-slr*C(3,5))+acx*(C(3,7)-slr*C(3,11))

dzfright = acx*(C(9,1)-slr*C(9,5))+acx*(C(9,7)-slr*C(9,11))

Orientation B:

dzfleft = acx*(-C(3,1)+slr*C(3,5))+acx*(-C(3,7)+slr*C(3,11))

dzfright = acx*(-C(9,1)+slr*C(9,5))+acx*(-C(9,7)+slr*C(9,11))

dzwleft = aczleft*C(3,3) + aczright*C(3,9)

dzwright = aczleft*C(9,3) + aczright*C(9,9)

left anti-dive = -100*dzfleft/dzwleft

right anti-dive = -100*dzfleft/dzwleft

Rear Suspensions

acx = (1-(front brake ratio))/2

aczleft = -(cg height)/2/(wheel base)

aczright= -(cg height)/2/(wheel base)

Orientation A:

dzfleft = acx*(C(3,1)-slr*C(3,5))+acx*(C(3,7)-slr*C(3,11))

dzfright = acx*(C(9,1)-slr*C(9,5))+acx*(C(9,7)-slr*C(9,11))

Orientation B:

dzfleft = acx*(-C(3,1)+slr*C(3,5))+acx*(-C(3,7)+slr*C(3,11))

dzfright = acx*(-C(9,1)+slr*C(9,5))+acx*(-C(9,7)+slr*C(9,11))

dzwleft = aczleft*C(3,3) + aczright*C(3,9)

dzwright = aczleft*C(9,3) + aczright*C(9,9)

left anti-lift = -100*dzfleft/dzwleft

right anti-lift = -100*dzfleft/dzwleft

2 (Y):  Right Front Anti-Dive or Right Rear Anti-Lift

%

See Component 1 (above) for explanation and equations.

3 (Z):  Average Front Anti-Dive or Rear Anti-Lift

%

The mean of components 1 and 2.

4 (RX):  Left Front Dive or
Left Rear Lift

mm/g

The front suspension dive or rear suspension lift during braking or:

Front Suspensions

left dive = (dzfleft+dzwleft+aczleft/(tire stiffness))*weight

Rear Suspensions

left lift = -(dzfleft+dzwleft+aczleft/(tire stiffness))*weight

5 (RY):  Right Front Dive or
Right Rear Lift

mm/g

The front suspension dive or rear suspension lift during braking or:

Front Suspensions

right dive = (dzfright+dzwright+aczright/(tire stiffness))*weight

Rear Suspensions

right lift = -(dzfright+dzwright+aczright/(tire stiffness))*weight

6 (RZ):  Average Front Dive or Rear Lift

mm/g

The mean of components 4 and 5.
