Use the Spin panel to create a surface and/or mesh or elements by spinning a series of nodes, a line or lines, or a group of elements about a vector to create a circular structure.

Examples

Spin nodes to create a surface

The elements in this illustration were created without element biasing.

Subpanels and Inputs

The Spin panel contains the following subpanels and command buttons:

hmtoggle_arrow1Spin Geoms

Use the Spin Geoms subpanel to create a surface and/or mesh or elements by spinning a series of nodes, a line, or lines about the normal of a user-defined plane.

Panel Inputs

Input

Action

node list / lines selector

Pick the nodes/lines you want to spin.

N1, N2, N3, B

Specify a plane.

The selected nodes are spun about the normal of the plane.

angle

The angle through which to spin the nodes.

meshing options

mesh, keep surf: creates a surface from the selected entities and then generates a mesh on the created surface.  The created surface is retained along with the mesh.
mesh, dele surf: creates a surface from the selected entities and then generates a mesh on the created surface.  The created surface is then deleted and only the corresponding mesh is retained.
mesh w/o surf: This option creates a mesh between the selected entities using linear interpolation without creating a surface.
surface only: creates a surface from selected entities, but does not create a mesh.  You can use the resulting surface to perform any desired geometry cleanup functions or automeshing.

hmtoggle_arrow1Spin Elems

Use the Spin Elems subpanel to create a surface and/or mesh or elements by spinning a group of elements about the normal of a user-defined plane.

Panel Inputs

Input

Action

elems selector

Pick the elements you want to spin.

N1, N2, N3, B

Specify a plane.

The elements are spun about the normal of the plane.

angle

The angle through which to spin the elements.

on spin

Enter the number of elements you want to generate along the path of the spin.

bias style

Select linear, exponential or bellcuve

bias intensity

hmtoggle_arrow1Command Buttons

The following action buttons appear throughout the subpanels:

Input

Action

spin +

Creates the surfaces in the direction specified.

spin -

Creates the surfaces in the opposite direction

reject

Reverts the most recent changes.

return

Exits the panel.
