Use the Rigid Walls panel to create and update rigid walls.
Rigid walls are used to define a contact or sliding rigid wall in an analysis code. In all user profiles except for LS-DYNA, rigid walls are created as group entities with configuration 5. In the LS-DYNA user profile, rigid walls are created as rigid wall entities.
You can define the nodes included in a rigid wall using one of the four methods listed below:
nodes
Create a slave node for each node included in the rigid wall.
components
Provide a list of components. In this case, the analysis code is provided with a list of component IDs.
sets
Select one or more previously defined entity sets. In this case, the analysis code is provided with a list of the entity set IDs.
all
Include all the nodes in the model. If you select all, the keyword ALL is used.
You can also select one or more previously defined entity sets. In this case, the analysis code is provided with a list of the entity set IDs.
The Rigid Walls panel displays fields for dictionaries or card images depending on the type of solver template that is referenced. If a card image template is loaded, or no template is loaded, the panel displays card image related fields. If a dictionary template is loaded, the panel displays dictionary related fields. Card image and dictionary entry fields are used in the same way except that when a card image solver is being used and edit is selected, the card image is displayed in a new area of the screen. For dictionary solvers, the data is shown in the existing menu area.
This function requires a template file.
Subpanels and Inputs
The Rigid Walls panel contains the following subpanels and command buttons:
Panel Inputs
Input
Action

Click the button and pick the desired rigid wall type. The options depend on the current solver profile.
creation method:
Use the switch to pick between these options:
• | card image: pick the desired card image. |
• | no card image: do not apply a card image to the rigid wall. |
• | same as: create a new rigid wall with the same card image as another existing rigid wall. |
rgdwall color

Click this button and choose a color from the pop-up menu.

name =
Click this button to select an existing rigid wall from a list.
shape:
Use this switch to select the desired shape: plane, prism, cyl, sphere, madymo plane , or madymo ellipse from the pop-up window.
base node
Specify the base node for the rigid wall. You can click the edit button to directly change the node's coordinates.
normal vector:
This switch offers three options for determining the rigid wall's normal vector:
• | vectors presents a standard plane and vector selector, allowing you to define the vector via nodes or axes. |
• | components allows you to type in X, Y, and Z components of the vector. |
• | systemid allows you to define the vector by means of selecting a local system. |
shape: (switch)
Describe the geometric information. Additional inputs display depending on the selection:
To describe a finite plane , use the selector to choose either the corner or dist/axis creation method.
• | To use the corner method, select two nodes. |
• | To use the dist/axis method, use the vector collector to specify the local x axis of the plane and then type in the lengths of the local x and y directions of the plane. |
To describe a finite prism , use the selector to choose either the corner or dist/axis creation method.
• | To use the corner method, select two nodes, as pictured. |
• | To use the dist/axis method, use the vector collector to specify the local x axis of the prism and then type in the lengths of the local x, y, and z directions of the prism. |
To describe a cylinder , use the selector to choose either the node or radius creation method.
• | To use the node option, select a node that describes the radius of the cylinder. |
• | To use the radius option, type in the desired radius of the cylinder. |
• | Type in the desired length of the cylinder. If the length of a cylinder is zero, it is assumed to be infinite. |
To describe a sphere , use the selector to choose either the node or radius creation method.
• | To use the node option, select a node that describes the radius of the sphere. |
• | To use the radius option, type in the desired radius of the sphere. |
To describe a coupled MADYMO plane or ellipse, choose either type and enter the ID of the plane or ellipse in the MADYMO input deck.
This shape type requires that you specify two nodes as corner nodes of the parallel shape.
shape: infinite/finite
If plane or prism is selected for the shape, select infinite or finite. To describe an infinite plane or prism, no additional input is needed, additional details for a finite plane are described for shape: (switch) above.

(motion switch)
The first switch on the subpanel allows you to pick between vectors and components to define the direction and magnitude of the motion.
• | If you choose vectors, type a value into the magnitude = numeric box, then use the standard plane and vector selector to define the direction. |
• | If you choose components, Type in the x, y, and z values of the components. |
