Use the Topography panel to define design domains for topography optimization.

Subpanels and Inputs

The Topography panel contains the following subpanels and command buttons:

hmtoggle_arrow1Create

For information on topography design variables, see DTPG in the OptiStruct online help.

hmtoggle_arrow1Bead Params

Panel Inputs

Input

Action

desvar

Name for the design variable.

minimum width

The width of the bead at its apex.

draw angle

The angle of the bead’s sloped sides.

draw height

The height of the bead compared to its parent surface.

buffer zone

When off, an unperturbed node in the non-design region can be directly adjacent to a node in the design region which is at full bead height.  This can lead to mesh quality problems.

When buffer zone is active, a draw angle will exist between unperturbed nodes in the non-design region and nodes in the design region.

draw direction

The default draw direction is normal to elements, but you can define a particular draw direction by clicking the toggle and specifying a direction or a vector normal to a plane.

boundary skip

This parameter tells OptiStruct to leave certain nodes out of the design domain, to prevent perturbation of nodes where loads or constraints are applied.

None: all nodes attached to elements whose PIDs are specified will be a part of the shape variables.
spc: any nodes which have SPC or SPC1 declarations are omitted from the design domain.
Load: any nodes which have FORCE, FORCE1, MOMENT, MOMENT1, or SPCD declarations are omitted from the design domain.
load and spc: nodes with either ‘spc’ or ‘load’ declarations are omitted from the design domain.  This field is only valid if TYPE is PSHELL or PCOMP.

hmtoggle_arrow1Pattern Grouping

For more information on pattern grouping, see Pattern Grouping Options for Topography Optimization in the OptiStruct online help.
