Use the Nsm panel to add non-structural mass entities to a model, or modify existing ones.

Note:Non-structural mass entities can also be realized from the connectors module's apply mass panel

The non-structural mass set combination card is supported as a specific load collector with the NSMADD card image.  The case control NSM= selector is supported as a control card and is flexible to allow either single NSM or NSMADD references.

HyperWorks directly supports the bulk data cards NSM1 and NSML1.  NSM and NSML cards are converted to NSM1 and NSML1 respectively.

Since HyperWorks does not allow multiple NSM cards to have the same SID, when importing it will renumber and create the equivalent NSMADD cards.  In  addition, HyperWorks will group similar cards to reduce output.  For example:

nsm1

becomes

nsm2

HyperWorks will only export NSM1 and NSML1 bulk data cards.

Subpanels and Inputs

The NSM panel contains the following subpanels and command buttons:

Panel Inputs

Input

Action

name =

Type in a new name for the new NSM.

type=

Click the  field, and then pick the desired type.

NSM1 defines non-structural mass per unit area or per unit length for a list of elements or properties.
NSML1 defines lumped non-structural mass for a list of elements or properties.

color

Change the nsm color by clicking this button and picking a new color from the palette.

elems/props

OptiStruct or RADIOSS Only: Pick whether the NSM will be applied to elements or properties, then select the desired elems or props.

by entity / all

Nastran only: Set the toggle to the option needed:

By entity allows you to select elements or properties to define the nsm.
Note:Due to solver limitations, you cannot create an NSML1 entity that includes both area and line elements.
All allows you to assign the NSM to all entities of a specific type within the model.

mass =

Type in the mass value for the NSM into this field.

create

Creates the new NSM entity.

update

Updates the selected NSM entity to use the current input details.

review

Once an nsm entity exists, type its name into the name = field on either of the create or update subpanels, and then click review.  The elements or  properties that define the nsm are temporarily highlighted.

While in review mode on the update subpanel, you can change the selection of entities by any standard means (clicking entities, using the advanced entity selection menu, and so on) and save the changes by clicking update.  This clears the review mode, but if you enter review mode once again the new selection of entities will display.

Edit the card image of the selected entities.
