The options on the Contour, Tensor Plot, and Vector Plot panels in HyperView are based on the Nastran and OptiStruct solvers. The only Nastran-specific option is Entity with Layers, in which Z1 and Z2 are available in the drop-down list. Z1 corresponds to the upper shell layer as defined by Nastran. Z2 corresponds to the lower shell layer as defined by Nastran.

In HyperView, contouring results is accomplished based on layers. The following layers are available in the Entity with Layers drop-down menu:

Extreme
Max
Min
Z1 (stress)
Z2 (stress)
Z1/Z0 (strain)
Curvature (strain)

For each layer, an associated min and max value are calculated. Refer the following example.

Example

If the results include:

Element 1 Z2 = -20, Z1 = 10
Element 2 Z2 = -5, Z1 = 30

The layers would be defined as:

Z2 layer:
Max = -5, Min = -20

Z1 layer:
Max = 30, Min = 10

Min layer:
Max = -5, Min = -20

Max layer:
Max = 30, Min = 10

Extreme layer:
Max = 30, Min = -20

Refer to the HyperView online help for Contour, Tensor Plot, and Vector Plot panels for full descriptions of each option.
