Performance gain for SMP runs on Windows platforms is poor, therefore using more than one processor on these platforms is not recommended

Server Recommendations for RADIOSS Explicit

Altair does not recommend any particular brand of hardware. All hardware purchases are going to balance the cost versus performance. The following are some items which can affect the server performance with RADIOSS Explicit.

CPU – The clock speed of the processor, along with the speed at which data is exchanged between CPU cores of processor. Since RADIOSS Explicit scales very well, having more CPU cores available will reduce the solution time for the analysis. In general, explicit solutions are very CPU intensive and thus having fast and multiple CPU’s is very important.

Memory – The amount of memory and its clock speed will affect the solution times. The amount of memory required by an analysis depends on the solution type, element types and the amount of contact.

Disk drives – The faster the hard drive speed, the better.

Interconnect – For solutions that require many processors, it is important to have a fast interconnect between the nodes of the cluster.

In conjunction with Intel Corporation, Altair recently simulated a RADIOSS Explicit car crash model in less than 5 minutes. More information can be found at http://www.altairhyperworks.com/NewsDetail.
