Use the Responses panel to create responses for an optimization.

All constraint functions and the objective function in an optimization problem must refer to responses. For more information, see DRESP1, DRESP2 cards of the Bulk Data Section in the OptiStruct online help.

 

Subpanels and Inputs


There are no subpanels on the Responses panel. However, the panel layout is extremely dynamic depending on what settings you choose--especially the response type.

Type in a name for the response (maximum of 8 characters) if creating a new response; otherwise, click the field twice to pick an existing response from a list of those already defined in the model.

dsysid

Choose between specifying a response type, or a dsysid.  If you pick response type, you must define additional characteristics; if you pick dsysid, simply specify it in the dsysid= field (which replaces the response = field.)

(response type switch)

The switch under the response type / dsysid toggle allows you to pick the response type.  This switch only displays when response type is selected.

There are a huge number of possible additional inputs, each of which depends on which response type is chosen:

Choose either total or by entity (or, where available, sum or combined).
For by entity, sum or combined select the desired entities.

 

Click nodes and select the desired nodes from the graphic display (check numbers and the IDs of the selected nodes will be displayed).
Select the degree-of-freedom for the response definition, or choose total disp or total rotation.

 

Enter the number of the mode for the response definition.

 

Select the desired entities (elems, comps or props) to include in the response definition.
When elems are selected, check numbers and the ids of the selected elements will be displayed.
When comps or props are selected, under the excluding: heading choose individual elements to exclude from the response definition.
Depending on the nature of the response type and the elements, components or properties selected, additional arguments need to be defined indicating the type (von mises, normal, and so on) and location (z1, point 1, end A, and so on) of the response.

 

Select the desired entities (elems or comps) to include in the response definition.
When elems are selected, check numbers and the ids of the selected elements will be displayed.
When comps are selected, under the excluding: heading choose individual elements to exclude from the response definition.
Depending on the nature of the response type selected, additional arguments need to be defined (normal 1, hill, and so on).
Choose from all plies, ply number =, and global ply number = (for PCOMPG property).
If ply number = or global ply number = are selected, then enter the ply number for the response definition in the corresponding text field.

 

Click nodes and select the desired nodes from the graphic display (check numbers and the IDs of the selected nodes will be displayed).
Select the degree-of-freedom for the response definition.
Choose from real, imaginary, phase and magnitude.
Choose from all freq, freq =, sum, avg, ssq, rss, max, min, avgabs, maxabs, minabs, and sumabs.
If freq = is selected, enter the desired frequency in the corresponding text field.

If dequation = is selected, click it and select the dequation definition to be used.
Click edit and choose variables for use in the function:
Activate the appropriate variable types by checking the box. They can be any of DESIGN_VARIABLES, TABLE_ENTRIES, RESPONSES, RESPONSES_BY_LOADSTEP, NODES, or DVPREL_GENERIC.
Note:RESPONSES and RESPONSES_BY_LOADSTEP cannot be used in the same function response.
Enter the number of each activated variable type that will be referenced in the function response.
Note:Remember that if a dequation is used in the definition of a function response the order of the variables on the left-hand side of the dequation definition must match the sequence in which they are listed on the DRESP2 card image, that is, any TABLE_ENTRIES references must come before RESPONSES references.      
Select the variables by clicking the relevant yellow buttons that appear in the card image.

 

Click loadsteps, then choose and weight the loadsteps to be used in the weighted comp response.

 

Choose and weight the mode numbers to be used in the weighted freq response.

 

Click loadsteps, then choose and weight the loadsteps to be used in the compliance index response.
Choose and weight the mode numbers to be used in the compliance index response.
If desired toggle autonorm to norm = and enter the normalization factor.

Command Buttons

The following action buttons appear:

Create a new response based on the input settings.

update

When editing an existing response, click this to change its settings to match the current inputs.

review

Click review, then click response = and select from the list of responses.

The panel is populated with the parameters of the selected response.

edit

For function responses, click this button to see the selected variables.

return

Exit the panel.
