Use the Options - Mouse dialog to customize mouse controls.  To open this dialog, select Options from the Preferences menu, and then click Mouse on the tree.

Mouse options

From the drop-down menus on the Mouse tab, you can assign the following actions to the left button, leftbutton, middle button, middlebutton, right button, rightbutton, and the mouse wheel wheel_mouse:

None

Does not assign any features to the mouse button.

Arc ball

Rotates the graphic using the center of the window as the center point of rotation. The graphic rotates as the cursor is dragged and stops rotating when the cursor is at rest.  When Arc Ball is assigned to a mouse control, a small white square appears in the center of the window.  The cursor is displayed as arcball.

Circle Zoom

Magnifies a selected section of the graphic.  The cursor is displayed as circlezoom.

Context Menu

Displays the context menu in the graphics area for frequently accessed functionality.  You can add you own context menus by configuring the Preference file.  See *BeginContextMenu() for additional details.

Deselect

Deselects an entity.

Mouse Settings

Displays the Set Mouse Controls dialog.

Pick center

Repositions the graphic in relation to the center of the screen.  When Pick Center is assigned to a mouse control, a small white square appears in the center of the window.  The cursor is displayed as pickcenter.

Select

Selects an entity.

Translate

Enables you to reposition the graphic on the screen by dragging the mouse.  The cursor is displayed as translate_pan.

Tumble

Dynamically spins the graphic using the center of the window as the center point of rotation. The graphic continues to tumble as long as the mouse button and the assigned controls are pressed.  When Tumble is assigned, a small white square appears in the center of the window.  The cursor is displayed as tumble.

Vertical zoom

Scales the graphic in relation to the vertical position of the pointer on the screen.  The cursor is displayed as vzoom.

Wheel

Scroll wheel of the mouse.  Used in combination with the Ctrl key on the keyboard, or for depth zooming with the Selector/Show/Hide/Isolate browser modes.

Window add pt

Adds a point to define a window.  After defining a window, click inside or outside of the window to select entities.

Window del pt

Deletes a point from a defined window.

Window clear

Removes a window drawn on the model.

On the left side of the dialog box, None, Ctrl, Shift, and Ctrl + Shift are listed.  If you select a function from the drop-down menu next to None, that function is enabled when you press the mouse button.  If you select a function from the drop-down menu next to Ctrl, that function is enabled when you press the mouse button and the CTRL key on the keyboard.  Similarly, when you select a function from the drop-down menus next to Shift or Ctrl + Shift, those functions are enabled when you press the mouse button and the SHIFT key or the mouse button and the CTRL + SHIFT keys simultaneously.

Pick Tolerance specifies the maximum distance, in pixels, that the cursor can be from a graphical entity in order to select it.  When the pick tolerance is increased, it is easier to pick an entity.

Click Default to assign the default mouse control settings.

How do I...

hmtoggle_plus1Assign a viewing control to a mouse button:
1.From the Preferences menu, select Options. The Options dialog is displayed.
2.Click Mouse on the tree.
3.Select the control to be assigned to the corresponding mouse button and keyboard stroke combination. When the mouse button is clicked or dragged in the active window and the required keyboard buttons are pressed, it performs the function assigned to it.

1.With your mouse and any assigned keyboard strokes, drag the cursor around a portion of the graphic to be magnified.
2.Release the mouse button to scale the selected area to fill the window.

1.Position the mouse inside the window.
2.Press the mouse button and keyboard strokes assigned to the translate function.
3.Drag the mouse. The graphic moves with the mouse as it is dragged across the screen.

1.Click the mouse button and keyboard strokes assigned to the Pick Center function on any point in the graphic. The selected point is now displayed in the center of the window.
hmtoggle_plus1Rotate a model using the arc ball function:
1.Drag the cursor across the window using the mouse button and keyboard strokes assigned to the Arc Ball function.

The further the pointer is from the center of the window when dragging begins, the finer the control.  As the pointer moves, the graphic is pulled around the center point.  The axis of rotation is the line passing through the center point, perpendicular to the line created by the center point and the current mouse location, within the plane of the screen.

1.In the window, press and hold the mouse button and keyboard strokes assigned to the Tumble function. The graphic is pushed around the center point.
hmtoggle_plus1Dynamically change the tumble axis:
1.Drag the pointer around the window.

Tumble speed is determined by the distance of the cursor from the center point.  The greater the distance from the pointer to the center point, the faster the graphic tumbles.  The axis of rotation is the line passing through the center point, perpendicular to the line created by the center point and the current mouse location, within the plane of the screen.

1.Using the mouse button and keyboard strokes assigned to the Vertical Zoom function, click in the animation or model window.
2.Drag the mouse vertically on the screen. As the mouse is dragged upward, the graphic is reduced within the window. As the mouse is dragged downward, the graphic is enlarged to fill the window.

1.Pick the desired entity on the model with your mouse cursor. The entity is highlighted.

1.With your mouse cursor, pick the entity on the model that you want to deselect. The entity is no longer highlighted.

1.Create the window by adding window points to the screen with your mouse cursor.
2.To change the size and shape of the window, pick a point with your mouse cursor and drag it until the desired shape is achieved.
3.Click inside the window to select all the interior entities. The entities are highlighted.
4.Click outside the window to select all the exterior entities. The entities are highlighted.
5.To delete a point from a window, with the mouse cursor, pick the point that you want deleted. The point is removed from the window.
