The Spring Dampers panel allows you to create and edit spring damper force elements and their properties.
Spring Dampers panel
A spring damper can be a coil spring damper or a torsion spring damper:
Coil Spring
|
Generates a translational line of action force between two points on two bodies that is a function of the distance and the relative velocity between the two points.
|
Torsion Spring
|
Produces a moment between two bodies that is a function of the relative angular displacement and the relative angular velocity between the two bodies.

The Spring Dampers panel contains the following tabs:

User-Defined
1. | From the Project Browser, select the system to which the Spring Damper is to be added. |
2. | Right-click on the system and select Add > Force Entity > Spring Damper from the context menu. |
OR
- | Right-click on a spring damper folder in the Project Browser and select Add Spring Damper from the context menu. |
OR
- | Right-click the Spring Damper button on the Force toolbar. |
The Add SpringDamper or SpringDamperPair dialog is displayed.
3. | Assign a label to the Spring Damper. |
The point label can be changed at any time.
4. | Assign a variable name to the Spring Damper. |
The variable name is required and cannot be changed after it is defined.
5. | Select a Type: activate the radio button for Single (to create an individual point) or Pair (to create a symmetric Spring Damper Pair). |
6. | From the drop-down box, select either Coil Spring or Torsion Spring. |
7. | Optional for Coil Springs: activate the Create explicit graphics check box to add explicit graphics to the Spring Damper (if needed). |
8. | Add additional Spring Dampers or close the dialog: |
- | Click Apply to add more Spring Dampers. The current Spring Damper definition would be added to the system and the dialog will repeat again to add another Spring Damper. |
- | Click OK to add the current Spring Damper to the system and exit the dialog. |
