Penalty method is one of the contact treatments used in RADIOSS. Interfaces using the penalty method are based on master/slave treatment. Penalty methods do not ensure kinematic contact continuity, but they add springs at the contact spots.

Penalty Method |
Slide / Void |
Use of TYPE7 is recommended |
Sliding with void opening and friction between two Lagrangian surfaces. Symmetric computation (J. Hallquist algorithm). |

Slide / Void |
Use of TYPE7 is recommended |
Sliding with void opening and friction between two Lagrangian surfaces. Non-symmetric computations (master-slave algorithm). |

Slide / Void |
User-defined contacts |
Impact contact between two rigid surfaces. |
||
Slide / Void |
Solid contact impact at all speeds |
Multipurpose interface. Can be used in place of TYPE3 or TYPE5. Node to Segment contact. |

Slide / Void |
This contact interface can replace interface TYPE3, TYPE5, TYPE7, TYPE11 or TYPE19 |
Single surface, surface to surface with optional Edge to Edge contact. No time step condition with soft penalty. |

Slide / Void |
For stamping |
Specific interface between a non-deformable master surface and a slave surface designed for stamping. |
